A friend in the scene is telling me that the hardcore Tekken players are having a meltdown over this, while the casual enjoyers don’t mind it.

Every competitive player in every fighting game has a meltdown over huge patches. Tekken veterans haven’t been happy with how aggressive Tekken 8 is compared to 7. Sounds like the new patch has many buffs making characters even more powerful to run their gameplan.

Yeah it sounds like a lot of people were hoping they would buff defense options. They gave a slight buff to sidestepping and then proceeded to buff offense even more.

Tekken 8 already being an aggressive game, it’s crazy that they’d double down on that idea. Some feel like defensive play & neutral is a lost art. Players think SF6 is also too aggressive with drive rush but I don’t think it compares to Tekken 8.

Playing roulette & hoping the dev doesn’t ruin the game you put hundreds of hours into lol. I’ve been playing Third Strike & Killer Instinct lately. No patches coming for them!

      It’s probably this?

Patch 2.00 also changes the Point Gain/Loss System. Now, the higher your opponent’s rank is, the more points you will earn for a win. Moreover, the lower your opponent’s rank is, the more points you will lose for a defeat.

Matchmaking rankings are imprecise for the top players which can lead to big swings when weights are applied. Similar problem in Dota.

Also the change to grabs. If you react and push the correct command to cancel your opponents grab you’re still taking damage now. That’s the only complaint I’ve seen people complaining about online.

Isn’t that relative. I.e. “higher” as in “higher than yours”? I.e. the way MMR works in most competitive games like chess?

Kind of but at high ranking levels when there’s not enough players or matches it can make MMR changes a bit wild. The again Tekken is not a team game so maybe they can balance it out.
