Staff members search for spending on “climate science,” “climate crisis” and “pollution” as one of the world’s premier climate research agencies girds for cuts.

I hope somebody there will stand up to this. Just make a list of all grants and funding, detailing that all research on climate involves the Oceans and Atmosphere. You know, like the TITLE of the agency specifies.

That’s not standing up to it, that’s giving them exactly what they want

They would happily kill NOAA, say they’re going to privatize anything important, and then when shit hits the fan (because this is obviously a terrible idea) they’ll ask why minorities would do this

The smart idea is to give them something to buy time. Resistance would be giving them a long list of things that don’t exist or have already been shut down, or things in other departments to spread confusion

“Sorry sir the full report will take long we’ll go ahead and get you what we can starting chronologically” start with every research from 1807. Next week they get every paper from 1808.

Only problem is saying sorry. Sorry is failure that can be pressed on

There’s a protest going on right now, including several Congressional Democrats.

I figure that emoji is already banned on government computers. They went so far as to ban the spoon emoji because people were using it to respond to the Elon Musk “Fork in the Road” attempt to get people to resign

Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Anti-science, inactivism, and unsupported conspiracy theories are not ok here.
