The $160 Modular Mecha Comet Is Giving Us ‘DIY Game Boy’ Vibes

The Mecha Comet is a new Linux-based modular handheld device that seems to be catching eyes. It’s described as one of a kind and can function as multiple devices, from a game controller to a tinkering tool.

It comes with a 3.4-inch touchscreen at a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels, powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, and equipped with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB of eMMC flash storage. The device also supports WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, and features a Gigabit Ethernet port along with two USB 2.0 ports.

Most notably, the Mecha Comet can run over 60,000 packages from Debian repositories. Specifically, it’s shown playing GBA DOOM under emulation.
