If you have a disposal, run that while you’re heating the water too. A full/clogged disposal will cause backups or slow drainage which puts more strain on the pump.
It’s better to rinse it with hot water. The rinse cycle uses so little water that hot water doesn’t make it to the dishwasher if you didn’t use any from the sink.
and also to run the hot water tap before starting so that it has hot water from the start.
