I’ve heard the theory, that Spy X Family was specificaly created to promote having kids and to stop the demographic crisis in Japan

I’ve heard the author feels unfulfilled by Spy X Family because it isn’t a story he actually wanted to tell but instead one he thought would be popular (which is understandable given how quickly unpopular mangas can be cancelled). It’s been very successful which is great for them but it also has to sting a little knowing how some of his peers have reached similar success with very weird and personal stories like Chainsaw Man and Dandadan.

I think the urge hits some pretty hard. Sometimes I’m wondering why I’m doing everything i do then I picture myself relaxing watching over my family and I feel reassured im doing the right thing.

Its not a graphic urge like the anon described.

Yor is such a weird character.

    • In professional mode: highly competent, carries out a mission with no backup, spontaneous genius in combat.
    • In day to day mode: complete ditz, subservient to anyone who talks to her, barely understands the world around her. No it’s not an act.

I mentally check-out in these instances. She never questions what her husband does? The Mr&Mrs Smith mind games you might expect from the show, just… aren’t there.

The message is literally just “hi we’re unconventional, but we’re a team, and also dad is the boss and mom is pretty – root for us for some reason. Oh and the west is objectively better in every way, we won’t even pretend to make a comparison”. It’s a pretty insulting show.

There’s plenty of real people who are highly competent at their job but very socially inept. We might call such people “nerds”, “a gifted child”, or even “autistic” depending on the specifics and severity.

Oh and the west is objectively better in every way

The show makes it clear both sides are propagandized to assume they are better than the other side regardless of how true that is, and it avoids making specific comparisons to keep that vague.

The message is literally just "hi we’re unconventional, but we’re a team, and also dad is the boss and mom is pretty – root for us for some reason.

The point of the show is presenting 3 people (or 4 if you include the dog) that have some special talent but are socially awkward, and showing them work well together as a family despite frequent comedic mishaps. Honestly not even that out there for a show premise.

But hey, people have different tastes. If cute unconventional family comedy isn’t yours, just don’t watch it.

Her spectrum is strong then, because its like she has complete amnesia of what she’s capable of when daydreaming through her day life.

As for the fair propaganda, we barely see the East and the West is always portrayed in a gleaming opulent light. The negative aspects of Anna’s posh school usually boil down to one or two bad characters, whilst the rest of it is celebrated with fireworks and fancy balls/dinners without any open hint of disdain at the needlessness of it.

They do work well as a family, I’m just worried that Yorr might actually mentally be a child and that Lloyd is exploiting that. It feels weird man.

But yes, I agree, different strokes
