For context AWDL is responsible for AirDrop, AirPlay, etc
“Apple shall implement the measures for Wi-Fi Aware 4.0 in the next major iOS release, i.e. iOS 19, at the latest, and for Wi-Fi Aware 5.0 in the next iOS release at the latest nine months following the introduction of the Wi-Fi Aware 5.0 specification”

What are your guys thoughts?
Also a fun diagram of airdrop protocal (which shows adwl)
I am in the US so no idea is this will carry over and effect me here. I left android fully in 2023. I was using an iPad for work since 2018, and I never remember anything on Android working as well as AirDrop does on iOS/macos/tvos. Which was part of why I left Android.
If this WiFi aware works as well as airdrop I am down, but I have a feeling it will not.
@nokturne213 @Deemo @apple_enthusiast there is room to criticize Apple, particularly under Cook, but their stuff just works mostly the way it should.
Very interesting in depth read, thanks for posting! Looking forward to interoperable Airdrop-like functionality, would love to airdrop between my iphone and linux laptop.
I’m fine with Apple being asked to support a standard. What I’m not fine with is if Apple drops AWDL (which frankly, I doubt)
