There’s [email protected] and [email protected]. The lemmy.world version has a more recently active mod, @[email protected] / @[email protected], while the lemmy.sdf.org one @[email protected] hasn’t been seen in 2 years. There appears to be a lot more recent activity on [email protected] especially thanks to @[email protected] and overall a bit more activity there. However, lemmy.world is the biggest instance and consolidating towards smaller but still active instances tends to be a better move for keeping the Fediverse decentralized and diverse instead of centralized all on one huge instance.
Either way, it would probably help to consolidate so we can have one active fox community instead of people trying to independently contribute to two communities that seem to have no difference in content. Was wondering what people think about which community to consolidate to, if at all, or if there is some difference I haven’t yet detected and they should just coexist.
Also, I followed this guide in the sidebar and am wondering why it says to page relevant users in a top-level comment. Do user mentions just not work in a post so it has to be a comment?
EDIT: You know what, I can test that myself since I have alts. @[email protected], @[email protected], hi! An hour after the self-ping, both in post and in comment, neither account received a notification

Correct. As far as I am aware, user mentions do not (yet) work from within posts.
Adding a few top-level comments also provides some seeds and structure for discussion, making it more inviting than a completely empty comments section.
Mentions dont work in posts fyi
- Pinging [email protected] mod @[email protected] / @[email protected] for input
- Pinging [email protected] mod @[email protected] mod for input
- Pinging [email protected] recent contributor @[email protected] for input, thanks for all the cute fox pics!
As you mentioned in the OP, Greyscale hasn’t been active for a couple years. Paging admin @[email protected].
While sdf.org are older than Lemmy and will likely be around for a long time, they are pretty hands-off regarding their Lemmy instance, and it could take a while to transfer mod duties of [email protected].
Thanks for the ping! Indeed didnt get it from the post, but did from this comment
Hi :3
I’m active here, just not much to moderate since not much gets posted. When I initially moved to Lemmy, I had an account on .world, and didnt find any fox communities so created it myself. Then got the idea of setting up a bot to upload hourly from my personal fox picture collection, but that never happened. Now not a fan of having it on .world because of it defeating decentralization, but its already kinda established.
Nowadays I never post because I can’t come up with a title, even though having plenty of images to post…
Also alot of time spent working on my own website, https://findafox.net/ on which there are plenty of pics :3

For completeness’ sake, I’ll also highlight:
Might want to avoid ML, but the dormant EE communities could be resurrected as a non-World alternative which is better-managed than SDF.
Can agree on avoiding ml as well
But how about just creating a new community on sh.itjust.works, blahaj.zone or pawb.social for all that matters? In my eyes they got good rep. Im happy to moderate said community
But how about just creating a new community on sh.itjust.works, blahaj.zone or pawb.social
Creating yet another community on any instance adds to the consolidation problem we are trying to solve. As for those specific instances, blahaj is LGBT-focused, pawb is furry-focused, and sh*t-just-works has a bit of an awkward name. Not that there is anything wrong with these, but for a general fox community, something like [email protected] which already exists seems like it could be the smoothest transition.
I can’t come up with a title
I have this trouble too sometimes. I figure just approach it like you would alt text. “a picture of a bunny I took today,” “bunny in the evening,” “bunny looks left,” might be boring but it’s accurate, and people are here for the cute animal pictures, not for my clever titling. Thanks for making cool stuff on Lemmy!
I am confused on if you would rather stay on .world or if you would like to move, or if you are ambivalent. (I personally favor moving and getting you installed as mod on the sdf community, but I’m also not the only user of the fox community, hence the thread!)
True, can just keep it simple and descriptive, ill try to remember to post more :3
I would be in favor of moving the community to a different instance than .world, .sdf.org is definitely an option with the [email protected] community already there, though as much as i like the running joke of the foxnews being actual fox news, it is kinda confusing possibly for someone that just wants to find a community centered around foxes, so creating a new community called [email protected] or foxes@… would be in my favor
You need ping them in a comment. Mentions in the post are ignored.
@[email protected], @[email protected], hi! This is a comment mention.
I vote for [email protected] due to the more active mod, but I’ll be happy to post my plethora of fox pics to whichever community people decide on!
