  • But movie theatres are no longer the only way to enjoy the latest films.

That’s what it offered before, if a movie was coming out, you had no choice to either go to theatre or wait like a few years until you could rent or buy the VHS/DVD.

Theatres need to offer something else now. IMO their best chance is to become “the third place” for teenagers. They can have free hang out areas with affordable snacks that you can also see a movie there later.

But we all know they won’t cause their main motive is money.

And yeah, if you only care about money, there isn’t much to be made anymore for offering a big screen in this digital world.

  • China will overtake US as the dominant economic power, exert their influence on neighbouring regions and get more push back than it thought (similar to Russia).

The world will fracture into different regions with different day to day life (even more so).

US will become the wild Wild West where everything goes in the right state.

Canada and Europe (western not Eastern) will stay put in terms of peace, but they will no longer have “the best standard of living”.

Africa will get abused by China and become the next China.

Australia will be like, wtf mate, but they’ll be dead soon… stupid kangaroos.

  • Autocratic countries have a small number of leaders, often one.

The goal of said leader isn’t really to grow and bring wealth and prosperity, but to never lose power.

So overall, the economics of the country would plateau, cause why risk allowing wealth to grow and fall into your opponents’ hands?

Hence why countries like Russia and North Korea rarely innovate, but just take what’s available to further entrench their country’s position.

So the only way autocracy can prevail is by brining down anything superior to it, much like what Russia is doing to the US.

  • Okay sure but can’t you have all of that without the train?

Imo a bunker would be a much better metaphor, especially since Ed Harris’ character believed their world was eternal (it was hard to believe it was running for that long).

I like the director and his critique on capitalism but imo he did it wrong. Especially give that the ending…

    Tap for spoiler

…was the self destruction of humanity, given the train crashed, not anarchy.

Imo the movie would have been semi saved if they just showed a tribe of Eskimos at the end, not a polar bear.

That would be perfect, it would show that humanity would live on, but clearly the capitalistic system that was preserved on a train was self destructive and always meant to crash.
