I’m gonna be Taxi Dad. Driving kids all over for various sporting events. Today I was Chef Dad. Sunday that’s Nap Dad day.

It’s so hard when all you see around you is incomplete imperfection.
I used to be the same. It will happen one day.
Banff, Jasper, Yoho and the kooteneys. Mountains, hot springs, mountain biking, hiking, climbing and skiing in season. Canada is happy to welcome you.
Or the opposite side for a completely different experience. Gros Morne, Cape Breton highlands and kejimkujik in Nova Scotia. In between visit fortresses and national historic sites as the east coast is full of Canada’s founding history.
Greenhouse is full for the first round. Cold weather stuff since we are in Canada. All has germinated in the past couple of days. Mustard, arugula, mizuna, Bok Choi, tatsoi, broccoli, cauliflower and snap peas. Indoors onion seed is planted as well as leeks and celery. We’ve got one row left to prep in the greenhouse and then we wait for outside to thaw.
We got an Alienware R8 then had kids. It’s played media center and main computer/storage for our entire house for almost a decade with zero problems and gets used for hours and hours every day. We’ve even moved it cross country a few times. I don’t think anyone has ever played a real game on it.
But Jerusalem artichokes are also very invasive in many places and take over environments and choke out native species. This affects the entire environment in the area. From the plants to the bugs to the animals and the people, the water, soil nutrients, so many things. Why not plant native species. Include a few low native bushes to help the birds. Plant according to the soils and environment. It could be just about the pretty flowers or it could be about establishing a diverse ecosystem supported by your choice of plants at the beginning.
Know what species are natural and which are invasive to your area. Make sure you plant only native wildflowers. This may mean learning about plants this season, collecting seed and planting next year. Know your plants and seeds and watch for plants you do not want to add if you are using pre-mixed seed. If you are starting plants vs seeding the area, know what type of environment each likes best and grow them accordingly.
You will have to somehow deal with the grass or it will just choke the plants before they even establish. You can remove it, till it and remove the larger clumps or cover it for a period of time to kill the root structure. Depending on if you are building an amended bed in that area for the flowers would also depend on if you could use a hugelculture or lasagna method of smothering the existing grass.
What are your soils like? Where we live we have very heavy clay predominantly. Where we lived previously, we had meters and meters of beautiful loam and topsoil. Knowing your soils would also help us narrow down practices that are best suited for your location.
That’s a “down home” meal for me what people call comfort food. Makes my mouth water just thinking of it.
I would encourage you to change your diet and not quit eating.
Oh delicious. I used to work at a big park in western Canada and every Sunday the Filipino community would gather for lunch. Always so friendly they would come find me and invite me in for food. So many good cooks. I learned to make so many delicious things from that wonderful group of people.
Chicken Chow Mein but with tons of fresh veggies. Made from scratch including noodles and stock.
I personally lived like this for decades. I had a big backpack 80L. If my stuff didn’t fit in I had too much. I lived outside a lot. Sometimes inside. I didn’t have furniture or a car. Just a bedroll and a backpack. It was amazing. I’m old now and have the comforts of stuff but that time in my 20’s and 30’s was some of the best of my life.
This happens to me as well. It’s a bit annoying but I still prefer it over others.
Get off my…oh wait…
Looks like a lone poster could use some help at…
Barn or tree swallow?
We have many invasives that survive the process of not done correctly. I never recommend it to people who are not accustomed to it already. Just a safety measure for the uninitiated.
I think it’s the type of comedy they employ.
I want to try block printing but I have an art problem already.
