It’s impressive that some people keep a phone in good condition for that long and actively use it still. Even if the phone launched with android 7, I’d hope it at least would get an Android 8 update. Meaning a lot of phones meeting this criteria are even older.

Otoh, the fact that security update support only lasts a couple years is pretty sad. Honestly didn’t realize how long it’s been since my phone got a security update (currently android 11, originally launched with 10). Been meaning to swap to lineage or e/OS, but never got around to it, so thanks for the reminder.

The lack of groups was the deal breaker for me, so after it rolled out to beta, I finally switched back to Firefox as my primary browser.

Last I tried, I don’t think you could reorder or drag/drop groups and selecting multiple tabs doesn’t result in “group tabs” in the context menu, but it is still decent enough.

Maybe you took an interest in enough things to do well? Personally, I’d get distracted from lessons with trying to figure out alternative ways to think about or solve problems for things like math and I liked practicing mental math, so used normal classwork as a way to do that.

More surprised I was able to deal with classes like English and history though. But I’ve just been lucky enough to have a good memory for certain things school cares about.

Pre-Nintendo-price-jump, console games were as cheap as they’ve ever been… if you ignore all the DLC/micro-transaction stuff. But its still a lot more expensive than PC gaming. If you need a computer for other purposes anyways, upgrading from a decent office computer to a cheap gaming computer is still gonna be cheaper upfront than buying the office computer and new console, plus cheaper long-term.

Idk. All 2D Mario games seem pretty similar. Of course people are hungry for new levels to play, but there’s hardly anything groundbreakingly different from one to the next. And releasing things like Deluxe version of Mario Kart, a game that already seemed particularly derivative of the last entry in the series also feels a bit like milking. Feel like they’ve been afraid of making changes since double dash.

Pokemon innovates! If you combined all the changes since gen 1, you’d have 3 gens worth of new gameplay. But mega giga tera Pokemon using z moves might be a bit broken

Basically all megacorporations do that to everyone. Treating humans as just another sort of capital is a basic part of their existence. Doesn’t mean you should ignore the problems of funding these people.

One time I was with some of my friend’s family and his uncle spoke to me in Spanish, and I responded in English, but that was still enough to surprise my friend’s cousins. That in a part of the US where like half the people speak Spanish, yet it somehow is that uncommon for white people to know even the basics of Spanish.

Another way to differentiate would be things like rendering technology. While raytracing is starting to be partially utilized a little bit, I’d hardly say it’s taken over yet, so there’s not much technological difference between a 360 and a PS5. Mostly boils down to more cores and faster with some minor extra features. Far more difference between even the SNES and the N64 than between the PS1 and the PS5 imo.

You could also use Internet access as a determinant, but then even snes and Sega Genesis wouldn’t be retro (at least in Japan).

Could just define retros as anything that fits at least one or 2 of those 4 characteristics of retro video game consoles, but the xbox360 is pretty much modern by all of them.

If they know what email and reddit it are, Lemmy should be pretty easy to understand, at least from a user-perspective. Replace reddit with Twitter/Bluesky for mastodon, Instagram for pixelfed, etc, etc. I don’t think understanding how email works at a tech level is important for being able to use it. Ditto for fediverse.
