Dang, that sounds like a beast! I thought about trying to find something like that used, but i think my wife would have (rightfully) shot me down haha.
Printing some inserts/mounts is a great idea!

My bad, I thought i had listed a UPS in my post.
Yes, I do have one on the bottom. Got it used without batteries for cheap and filled it with new batteries.
Pro tip: if you’re not super fussy, search for AV racks instead of server racks. Many come with handy shelves and they seem to cost less, despite having the same basic functionality.
UPS = Uninterruptable Power Supply
Basically just a battery backup to help ensure that a short power outage doesn’t wreak any havoc, and gives the media server a chance to shut down gracefully.

I’ve got some disk space and bandwidth to spare. No idea what i personally would do with the data, but keeping it alive seems worthwhile!
Trust me, I hear you on the algorithmic shit.
I dont think i have a single playlist set up, and almost exclusivly listen to albums cover to cover. All I really want is for a service to occasionally say “Hey you spent 60 hours last month listening to these 3 bands… check out these guys if you want something fresh with a similar vibe”
Spotify did a semi decent job of that, and it’s how I’ve discovered a few new bands, but paying $18/mo just to discover a few per year is not a great value proposition. I’d rather torrent a random album and then pick up some merch or concert tickets if I end up liking them.
I have not personally got to the point of trying any yet, but I have heard several times about plugins for Jellyfin that add discoverability and recommendation features.
You still have the issue of actually tracking down the music, which Jellyseer or similar can help with. But if one of those plug-ins were to interface with Spotify or YouTube for preview purposes, that would be pretty slick!
I have a pair of “WTF” coffee mugs I got from them probably 15 years ago, and still use regularly. Amazingly, for being free promo items, they are still in virtually perfect condition!
EDIT: it’s this bad boy right here: https://thedailywtf.com/articles/announcement-get-the-mug
I got lucky - just happened to randomly wake up and remembered a coworker mentioning there would be an eclipse tonight around 2am. Dragged the wife out of bed just in time to catch the tail end of totality.
First time for me too!
No you’re right, the hardlinks themselves are not directional. I just misunderstood the advice as meaning that Radarr would create a hardlinked file in my torrent folder, using the existing file in my media library. (It will not)
The part that was tripping me up was that it seemed like I had to manually add the movies to Radarr’s library before it would let me import any of my torrent files. Otherwise it would give me an error saying the movie was unknown.
I think I’m starting to get the hang of it though.
Thanks, that makes sense.
I’ve been going cross-eyed staring at the Trash guides and Servarr wiki trying to get hardlinks and all the file paths working correctly (stupid simple fix in the end), so a little nudge in the right direction is appreciated.

Sure, that would get all the torrented content into radarr quickly, but I guess I should have stated that my intent is to continue seeding that content from the qbittorrent client on my media server.
Unless radarr is somehow smart enough to hardlink the opposite direction (from the media library back to torrents folder) and let qbittorrent know that content is ready to seed…?
I imagine there is something like this in a lot of languages, but it’s always amused me that Bulgogi (Korean BBQ beef/pork) translates literally to “fire meat”
I’m happy to learn Finns have a similar word!
Thanks I will double check that later. Reading the Trashguides, I didn’t catch that the paths had to be that identical.
It’s more than a little annoying that Radarr doesn’t throw any indication that it’s physically duplicating files rather than creating hardlinks!
Same here… vague memories of him sketching Homer and pointing out the easter egg maaany years ago, but I’ve never seen anyone else do.it before now!

Upvoted for including Matt Groening’s initials!
Appreciate the suggestions! I love the idea of a modular 1u panel that can swap in various small devices. I think if I had to, I could probably manage to model up something custom, but that is bordering on being not-dull… 😅
