  • lol … I love Abbot and Costello … I watched a lot of the reruns as a kid in the 80s to know who they are. And I definitely remember this classic.

It made me think more about those Native named placenames … I remember one dad told me a long time ago was ‘Ptarmigan guts creek’ (it sounds weird and funny in Ojibway) … another was ‘Having Sex’ or ‘Fucking’ Rapids … for the longest time, I thought these places were a joke and didn’t exist. When I repeated them to many other people, they confirmed that this is what they were called.

  • If they are honest about what they are suggesting … the first step would be to be explicitly clear about who THEY are and WHO they represent.

I really don’t care that much about the technical side of things because I’m not that technically knowledgeable. However, I am more apt to trust the judgment or recommendations of prominent people in the industry (that are not corporately attached or controlled) … I would also trust public institutions or journalists or academics with a track record of social advocacy and wanting to represent people instead of corporations or businesses. I would also trust politicians or political advocates that mostly represent people and public institutions.

I really don’t put my faith in any one person no matter who they claim to be to just say they want to build something meaningful and give me no information on their background, who they worked for, who they represent or what kind of people or organizations they associate with. There have been far too many ‘good natured’ technocrats and technology people from the past decade or two who claim to say that they want to change the world for the better and then end up wanting to burn it all down for a profit.

  • Give it about a year or two and it would just become normalized and dull. It would be funny for a month or two but after that it would be treated no more unusual as any other street name or map label. Even if you have funny names to people’s houses, eventually it all just gets normalized.

I’m indigenous Canadian and I speak my ojibway language and when I think about many of the common lakes and rivers and placenames I grew up with they’re all just places that translate to mundane things like … Rock River, Round Lake, Big Falls, Red Lake, Big Water, Muddy Water, Fast Flowing River, Trout River, etc, etc

I always saw it as a psychological test … they’re trying to find gullible, pliable individuals who can passably do the work and agree to be paid as little as possible and made to work as much and as often as they can.

A bonus for them would be actually finding people they could literally treat like slaves and not pay them anything.

  • I had one similar in Florida once years ago … 25 years ago now I think … and this was in Fort Lauderdale.

I was lying in bed in a cheap motel staring up at a sky light and I could see a few stars but not many because of the light pollution. I saw a satellite or a plane in the sky and I started to follow it. Moving from west to east. I didn’t think much of it, I’ve seen lights like it many times in Northern Ontario.

Right directly overhead, in made a right angle turn north … then a right angle turn back east and continued on its way. It never stopped or slowed down, just turn, turn and kept going.

I couldn’t believe it and thought maybe it was a bug on the glass? A helicopter? A speck of dust? It was weird because it followed a steady path across the sky first did a weird right angle turn twice and moved on.

I told my wife who was with me and she didn’t think anything of it and said I probably just imagined it. Maybe I did? But I’m very certain of what I saw because I was so shocked by it. I wasn’t drinking, no drugs (legal or illegal) and I haven’t had anything like it happen to me before or since.
