Yeah it’s possible it was a defensive move. But I don’t think he framed it that way, and I would absolutely be sure to clarify why I kicked a dog if that were the truth. Honestly I would probably lie to avoid having to explain that.
Sadly this was a while ago and I don’t remember if I asked for more details. I just remember it was super awkward.
I think it’s a bit more insidious. Writing a good search engine has become much harder since the first iteration of Google. Yes the root of the issue is greed, but it’s not all the fault of the search engine. Now you have to deal with SEO-optimized marketing material generated by AI.
Building a “good” search engine today is like entering an arms race.
This is farfetched. People love meat, and we have for our entire history. Even India only has around 30% vegetarian population. The demand for not just protein but specifically meat will never go away.
The only way I see us avoiding animal slaughter is by mastering bioengineering to the point where we can grow a perfectly marbled brisket in a lab without actually cloning the whole cow.
This is hard on mobile.
There is always an exception. One of my older coworkers once came in to work with a sprained ankle. I asked why and he said he got it from kicking a dog, with zero remorse in his expression. I wish I had not asked. I knew he was weird but that detail cemented my opinion of him.
Yea I don’t think a cup or two of coffee alone is bad, other than temporarily increasing blood pressure. But I definitely wouldn’t combine it with smoking.
Anyone that thinks they’re “coding on the go” with something of this form factor is kidding themselves.
