I’ve seen a trend where people move the goalposts on the reasons they’re not able to switch. “If only this program worked I could switch”, but when that program is ported it’ll be a new excuse next. Sooner or later you’ll have to draw a line and say “99% of my stuff works, the 1% that doesn’t can get bent”.

“Unlimited” is always a marketing gimmick, and they’ll always contact you like “hey I noticed you’re actually trying to use the thing you paid for you need to stop or we’ll terminate you”. Along the same lines: “Lifetime license” means 5 years, and “All-You-Can-Eat Pancakes means Four Pancakes.”

It’s possible. I think the biggest obstacle is that the corporations feeding on people’s data are not going to just stand by while it happens.
