We visited San Antonio Texas and my friend had said she got the best margarita of her life. While we enjoyed seeing the city, I think I need to make her a margarita because they were trash.

2 oz Tequila Ocho Blanco

1 oz fresh lime

1 oz orange liqueur

1/2 ounce Ancho Reyes (el rojo)

Shake shake with ice, pour over fresh ice of any variety.

Related - if anyone on here lives near there, where are these great margaritas or was she just drunk.

I’d personally cut down the sweet on that recipe.

For a 2oz tequila pour, I use ½oz of orange (preferably Cointreau at 40%ABV, less if lower ABV) and measure out 1oz of fresh lime juice. I cut the lime a bit if using the squeeze bottle in a pinch. If you like the zing of the ancho, I’d make it a partial substitute for the orange.

Half salt rim and a lime wheel if you feel fancy.

    Always on the rocks.

Yeah usually I do 2-1-1 (tequila, sweet liqueur, lime) but it was good like this too. Really good actually, not too weak in flavor at all and tequila forward still.

I do have a fire tincture that is more picante for adding heat without sweet, made it with habaneros and annatto. So have recourse for days I am intolerant of anything sweet but want easy spicy in the drink.
