Daiso had both alkaline and traditional carbon-zinc batteries in this size. I chose the latter because it’s for a 1960s device and I think that was the default battery chemistry in the era, plus modern alkaline batteries seem very prone to leaking when left alone for 10 years.
My trash cans use D cells. I don’t have a charger that fits so I go old school. It is happily taking garbage 15 years later with just one or two battery changes.
Edit: a word
I’m sorry, battery operated for what? Hopefully screaming at a curious/nosy pet.
It’s got one of those sensors opens and closes automatically. It has survived a bunch of non-dull things and it’s probably the most useful thing I kept through relationships, step kids, and times of too much excitement.
I can’t go into it as much as I want, but I do love the fact that it just works on two D cells every few years. That trash can makes me happy.
