Disclaimer: I’m not American, I don’t live in the US

JD Vance didn’t exist in my life before he became vice president. Now, I am aware that I also don’t know anything about most vicepresidents in the world. But I’ve seen a lot of people who are also USA outsiders making comments about him as if implying something else, as if relying on facts everyone ought to know. I get the feeling most people have already heard about him from before and I’m late to the party.

So, what do I need to know, other than his political affiliations? Yes, we all know who the president is and that says a lot, but, is Vance notorious for anything else?

There’s not much to it. He’s distinctly unlikable, and he’s also really easy to meme about.

    Ongoing memes that I know:

    • Vance fucks couches - afaik this never happened but people like to say that it happened anyways because it’s funny
    • “Have you ever said thank you”/clown suit - taken from a meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy. Vance interjected and asked Zelenskyy if he had ever said thank you to the aid that the US has given to Ukraine. Vance also asked why Zelenskyy wasn’t wearing a suit. Apparently the Ukrainian word for suit is the same as a clown suit, so people like to say that Vance asked Zelenskyy to wear a clown suit
    • baby Vance - I honestly don’t really know where this originated from, but people just edited his face to make his face small.
    • killed the pope - the pope died the day after meeting with Vance. People like to say that his evil caused the pope to die. As an interesting side note, the pope supposedly wanted to teach Vance about compassion shortly before the meeting
