When I run into this video, I thought they were making a bit, then they doubled and tripled down on this shit take.

modern society causes autism, autism is just what happens to your brain when you grow up without going outside or having friends you watch cartoons like my little pony friendship is magic and go into Google at 12 and find pornography of it your brain chemistry is rewired and the rest of your life your drawing imitations of the stuff that you saw imprinted on to your mind as a child. I think that autism is caused by environmental factors."

Vaush unironically thinks you can exercise your way out of ASD and ADHD.

I don’t follow Vaush but his videos pop-up into my recommendations now and then so I might play them as background noise when gaming sometimes. Today I find out that’s they’re just like Musk in this regard; they sound knowledgeable on subjects I personally don’t know much about (US politics), but when they decide to be confidently utterly wrong about things I know about, that’s when I know they’ve been full of shit on everything.

Holy shit that take was legit infuriating.

I don’t get what value there is in listening to his takes. Online pundits are a dime a dozen, there’s bound to be some left that don’t have repulsive aspects to their personality… probably… possibly…

Just be mindful of your Gell-Mann amnesia, you don’t know what else he’s been completely off base about that you didn’t have the knowledge to identify.

Why engage with their videos at all?

      I kinda agree.

Giving them more views tells the algo to boosts their visibility. As does having an active comment section. This results in a feedback loop where controversy leads to engagement which increases revenue which incentivizes more controversy.

This is the same reason you don’t engage with trolls.

Heard about their problematic takes before I ever came across any of their videos, so I didn’t even bother, but holy shit, that’s a bad take.

Watch how loads of “progressive” folks continue supporting them because they don’t see ableism as a real issue worth taking seriously…🙄

Vaush is non-binary now? And claiming ADHD is made up shit? Lol. Lmao even. Dude needs to chill out and take a break.

Sincerely, a diagnosed neurodivergent trans woman.

Only positive of this is that the comments are absolutely raking them over the coals about it.

The take about “infectious mental diseases” is very weird and bordering on ableism. I suggest you find another way to make your point.

Are… Are you basically making the same point as them?

That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of this works.

You have a lot of internalised and lateral ableism to unpack.

You have a lot of re-reading to do before you use big words like “ableism”.

“Touching grass” is a pejorative. “Going offline” or “detoxing from social media” - or “taking a break from streaming” is a recommendation by most psychiatrists in the world today. I don’t think you know the difference.

I don’t care what you think about the WHO, but they’ve collected the opinions of the world of psychiatry and it’s clear: the world is suffering from a global mental health pandemic.

To say that this isn’t exacerbated online is intellectually disingenuous, dishonest and your basic take shows exactly what your mentality is.

So tell me: whose the ableist here?

        Also, I didn’t know Vaush had they/them pronouns… except he doesn’t.

Autism and ADHD are not mental illnesses, they’re learning disabilities (technically ADHD is classified as an OHI, but that’s not the point). Depression, BPD, Schizophrenia, and anxiety are mental illnesses. And while yes, chronic online usage may negatively affect some of the illnesses, they are not caused by online use and can not be transmitted over the internet. Online use does not cause or worsen disabilities.

Everyone should cut back on online usage. But not because of some ableist rhetoric from someone misunderstanding psychiatric advice, as well as someone who doesn’t know the difference between a disability and a mental illness. You are comparing apples to oranges.

Massive difference between saying “mental illness is worsened by extensive time online” and “mental illness is contagious through the internet.”

You’re talking about memes. Not mental diseases. No mental diseases don’t spread online and racism isn’t a mental disease.

I can’t thank you enough. I was firing up like 5 tabs to begin an extensively documented and time wasting reply when I saw you removed it.

You just saved my whole morning and I appreciate it.
