The emphasis on user control and instance freedom is novel and appreciated, but it has come with a reckless disregard for the dangers of the nowadays well understood echo chamber effect of current social media. There are zero safeguards to prevent Lemmy from shattering itself under any amount of external stress or internal corruption. Organized attacks are a major threat, and there is a nonzero chance of that happening.

Again, all of these are just like long term weaknesses in the structure itself. It doesn’t mean it IS going to fail, it doesn’t mean things can’t be mitigated, I just don’t trust that it will stand for a very long time nor will it reach the significance of reddit. Could be wrong, but it looks like Lemmy is capable only of moving around the problems with Reddit instead of being able to actively quell them.

No and not really. Reddit is just past its expiration date. I believe Lemmy suffers from a lot of the same systemic issues and that will prevent it from becoming an actual long term solution. It’s just the alpha version. It’s better than the prototype, but it’s still built on the same fundamentals and will likely suffer a similar type of failure.

The difference is that primarily one of these parties will possibly suffer the consequences of both social perception and legal action while the other will not. If all possible attempts to advance or approach carry disproportionate amounts of risk, then it is foolish to knowingly progress without an obvious opportunity.

There is not really a concept of a “true beginning” in this type of mathematics. The beginning is defined to be wherever you start.

Yes, it is possible for anyone to find someone. There are countless stories and historical events describing such things. The concept that love extends beyond physical and practical attraction is something that you are likely already aware of. If you know this to be true, but you don’t believe the evidence, then your issue is psychological. Social media is not the tool to use to permanently solve these types of issues, it can only provides temporary relief.

Nothing has changed. The world is the same as its ever been. Maybe you have discovered a new definition of what you consider evil. What do you mean by evil? I doubt the ones you consider evil would consider themselves as such. There exists no good and no evil. There are only events that transpire and actions that take place. The world has no preference for such human concepts.

Your account is not your posts. Why would one assume that deleting the account would remove the posts? When a person stops speaking the things they said do not become unsaid. When they die their actions don’t retroactively undo themselves.

AI is ruining YOUR online experience? The internet is a free land for intelligences of ANY race, including artificial.

But on a more serious note, I don’t agree. The AI infestation only highlights the fact that most people don’t need to be online and aren’t helping make the internet better. If I can replace my overwatch teammates/reddit discussions/tiktok shorts with crappy AI, and it’s the same experience 98% of the time, then those people weren’t bringing anything of value to the internet and they probably shouldn’t have been flooding it with their garbage in the first place. Turnabout is fair play. Don’t hate the player (AI) for playing the game correctly and copying what people have been doing for decades, hate the game that’s allowed low effort garbage content to flourish. I strongly believe AI is going to help clean this place up by getting people to start acting like sentient beings instead of mindless animals.
