Other kings said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one! That sank into the swamp. So, I built a third one! That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one stayed up!

It’s even more impressive, right? More like building on the sea, wasn’t it?

It’s reclaiming the sea. Build big dykes to cut off a piece of sea from the rest. Pomp water out. You now have new land.

They created a giant swamp, then built on that.

But like, I can’t blame them. Who doesn’t like having access to water? Fixing swampland is a one-time thing.

It’s smart. Draining the capital swamp ahead of time prevents dipshits from successfully running on a promise of draining the swamp (exceptions apply.)

Idk if ancient Rome was ever a swamp? It was famous for it’s 7 hills. Unless you mean Ravenna then sure it’s 100% swamp.

Rome was infamously swampy. Malaria was rampant for just that reason. The Field of Mars itself was pretty swampy.

Rome being built only on its seven hills is a common misconception. Moreover it has also always been in the space in between and towards the river Tiber.
