It was refreshing to experience a game that had a mature, complex and multifaceted story that seemed to understand its audience was adults. Are there any more games like this?

The Witcher 3 (and the Witcher books if you’re into reading!), the story is awesome and adult-oriented.

The Walking Dead by Telltale/Skybound, it’s more of an interactive movie, but if you’re into that, the story is great.

God of War 2016 and its sequel Ragnarok. That shit hits different as an adult and parent.

Disco Elysium for sure, if you’re down with the point and click adventure style.

2016 made me go out and buy a ps5 because I couldn’t wait for a pc release. After that my ps5 collected dust until I decided to give rdr2 a shot, another amazing game.

Yes. A lot of games but many of them aren’t action/adventure. A plague tale is very close to the last of us in tone and storytelling , Disco Eylsum (Lots of reading but it is incredibly well written), spec ops: the line ( I would recommend not reading too much the story has some very good things that could be spoiled), Hellblade senua’s sacrifice (headphones recommend), Witcher 3 (If you want open world fantasy).

A plague tale was so good. The gameplay is good, the story is good, and the sequel is good. The first one (Innocence) has been free on epic games several times. If you have it, it’s worth going in blind.

A Plague Tale : Innocence was really great even though we can feel it’s not from major-studio AAA game I enjoyed it so much that I did Requiem (A Plague Tale 2) right after… The sequel is a masterpiece that I won’t forget, can’t recommend this saga enough go for it ! It’s not expensive, it’s not that long, it’s well made, story is awesome and gameplay has very interesting moments, especially in the second title where they correct most issues I had playing Innocence.

Couldn’t disagree more. Those games purposely have this strange trademark japanese slapstick humor, that make them completely unsuitable to convey serious mature content imo

the optional side quests are often wacky and silly, sure. but the overarching main story for each game is pretty much always serious and mature

The Talos Principle and The Talos Principle 2 are both quite good games. The first one in VR is incredible.

dragon age origins (oldie but a goodie). i second the mass effect trilogy, witcher 3, and disco. forgotten city was short but good. baldur’s gate 3. horizon zero dawn. solasta had pretty crappy graphics but i enjoyed the story and gameplay.
