sopuli and there is no doubt about it. Great vibe on the instance
I support this.

Lets all go to the movies. Lets all go to the movies. Lets all go to the movies and watch ourself a flick.
I would like the community to move to https://lemmy.zip/
I saw in another thread about another community moving that Lemmy.zip has the UK geoblocked as an FYI
Oh yes indeed, however that is mostly an issue for [email protected] because @[email protected] is in the UK and wants be able to mod from a local account.
For [email protected], we have quite a few people in other countries than the UK so that shouldn’t be an issue.
And for users, that’s not an issue as you can participate to the community from your instance of choice.
Of course hopefully down the line Lemmy 1.0 will allow moderation from non local accounts.
What is the team size behind each instance? Sopuli says it’s “run by a Finn” (as in one person)
With Piefeds migration feature, is it necessary? Since federation means the existing content won’t go anywhere?
Depends. Some people will find it handy to have the past posts and comments in the active community.
I’d suggest either Piefed for the tech, or a US instance.
I’ll follow whereever you go, but curious if sh.itjust.works is a good instance for you to consider? English/French and hosted in Canada. Been my home base since the Reddit API thing and very much enjoying my time here.
That said, question— is Piefed the only instance that would allow post migration? Personally I think that’s the most important thing. I don’t want content to be lost if it can be avoided.
sh.itjust.works
I like SJW, but I know some people don’t want to browse [email protected] on their work network due to the name.
Piefed the only instance
Piefed.social is the flagship instance. There is https://feddit.online/. Over time other Piefed instances will probably appear, but we have to make a decision and migrate before the end of the month.
Thanks for that. Can understand the URL at work thing.
As for the second part, I think my preference would be to find an instance to which the existing content can be migrated. If that’s the main piefed or others, or another Lemmy server, I don’t particularly have a preference, but let’s not lose the community that’s been built to this point.
The content is not leaving a anywhere it’s already been federated.
But it won’t show up on new instances, which means instance churn will erode it away from the broader fediverse. It could become a centralizing force if new instances can never access historical posts.
Sopuli. Anything but german based instance and i will be happy
Sopuli may be run by Finns, but according to https://fedidb.com/software/lemmy the servers(?) are in Falkenstein, Germany
