I certainly don’t mean to bodyshame bald people, I meant more Tate going and living in Romania to do sex crimes only to return to England looking like he’s been living in a coffin full of dirt was the nosferatu maxxing trend

The display names option does limit your actual name length combined with pronouns, hexbear it’s a separate field. I do appreciate the arguments against having it mandatory/integrated into the main lemmy. Here’s the github post about it, the lemmy.ml admins agree with your line.
That said, on hexbear I see plenty of people keep none/use name and they’ve also got specifically agender ones like null/void, undecided, any.
Nosferatu-maxxing, it’s this cool new trend
It means ‘fuck Joe biden’, there was some NASCAR thing where people were chanting ‘fuck Joe Biden’. It was being reported on and the reporter relayed it as ‘lets go brandon’ and it became a meme on the right.
The meme in this thread is about how American conservatives completely miss the nuance of why people on the left actually oppose both them and centrist Democrats. It’s easier to do childish shit and just assume that everyone to their left is some form of liberal who loves Joe Biden. The good news is they’re not getting younger.
Many such cases 😔
They’re usually a little more creative, like this:
For some reason the bank won’t let me take out an 8 figure loan to start my international piracy business. I’ll be starting up a gofundme.
The real question is why hasn’t Biden pardoned Luigi but he did pardon the child slavery guy
I wish they would merge in the pronoun support too, one of the better hexbear features imo.
They can call Obama a piece of shit as far as I’m concerned.
The issue is the application of a thinly veiled racist caricature though. Call Xi a dictator, piece of shit, whatever, but evidence it and don’t rely on racist tropes and I doubt you will catch a ban for it.
I’m aware of where the meme came from, personally I think it’s bad taste to be yapping about uyghurs in a thread about the Gaza genocide.
If people were gleefully calling Obama “Tigger” after that, and constantly doing that instead of having a real argument or something to say I think that would start resulting in bans for racism too.
the Winnie the Pooh comments are racist though, it’s not hard to have substantive critiques of China without constantly falling back on trying to equate the president with a yellow cartoon animal (or in your case, calling a moderator that). We don’t have to get into it, but they almost always hand out temp bans for that. For example yours is already expired.
I believe they forked from Lemmy before federation existed close to 4 years ago, added things like custom emojis and then only re-merged after federation was implemented then turned it on.
From my experience as an anarchist user who ended up volunteering to moderate in these spaces, most of the censorship happens when people are either being racist or aggro/sealioning. While users definitely tend to be more positive when it comes to China in places like hexbear than in more heavily pro-west spaces they are still critical of its shortcomings.
An example here: >80 up voted post with one of the highest comments criticizing the poor standard of care for trans youth in China
Here’s a thread criticizing Russia for being a cringe misogynist capitalist oligarchy and lamenting that the progress for women’s rights and LGBT rights that happened under communism wasn’t preserved. Again it’s a positive orientation because they are opposed to the west but also one of deep disappointment in their failures on social issues.
To me at least this type of commentary is a valuable perspective and is also stuff which often gets filtered entirely under the more advertiser-friendly moderation styles.
At the end of the day I value being able to at least hear dissent, I’m surrounded by the mainstream narrative in my daily life already anyways.
To be clear I don’t think I said agender pronouns in my last reply, that would bother me too- my point was that in the options available for that (mandatory) slot there are agender options - none/use name is actually the default option for all users (I made an account so I could poach emoji links).
I like that it’s more isolated from the rest of lemmy, the vibe is just different in those comms and I have to imagine it’s related to not constantly having people rolling up to sealion about reactionary/anticommunist shit. I do still like to interact with the rest of lemmy at the same time, which is why I’m pretty happy on .ml.
I do hope the support for community/server specific flairs gets some traction, it seems like it would actually have a pretty broad appeal and could be used for pronouns in addition to other things.
