I don’t follow him though, so no idea what he actually means.
Over-working is a common thing in Japan in general (this is oversimplifying things of course). So I wouldn’t be sure the anti crunch movement has reached Japan’s part of the industry fully.

So many Japanese creatives, so many creatives everywhere, swear up and down they’re at the end and can’t continue on.
Guess what? They keep coming back. How many time has Hayao Miyazaki come back from retirement now?

After seeing The Boy and the Heron in theaters… I think Miyazaki is done putting out bangers.
I haven’t seen every studio ghibli movie, but I thought the boy and the heron was pretty good: I liked it a lot more than whisper of the heart for example, but not as much as princess monoko, spirited away, my neighbour totoro, or howls moving castle.
I thought it was about on par with Ponyo.
Are there any you’d recommend that are better apart from those?
