Have you ever left the Lemmyverse (or I guess r*****) for more than a few days and if so, why did you quit, how did it go and what brought you back?

Its 100% replaced reddit for me. I haven’t left Lemmy but I spend a lot less time on Lemmy than I did on reddit. Lucky for me Linux is my favourite thing so there is enough content for me to get a good browse in each morning.

I joined for a month at the beginning of the API-pocalypse (June 2023), got burned out from the internet, deleted lemmy, now I’m back (I might delete this again, depending on how serious the political situation gets, am American, don’t wanna end up in a camp).

I came back because of the appaling US election results and I have no friends IRL to vent to. So I just wanna yell in the internet void.

I like Lemmy but it’s honestly boring and I find myself just not using any media sites anymore. Lemmy is awesome for what it is, but I can only take so much Linux and leftist politics masturbation. I’m rarely on here more than ten minutes at a time

It’s honestly probably for the best. Our devices should be tools for entertainment or helping with information. Not something that consumes our whole day.

It has gotten a lot better over the past 18 months. I had to block a fair number of communities in which I have little interest but it used to be all porn. At least now it’s all musk/trump spam and then some interesting content that isn’t all porn!

If you mean quit as in actively deciding “I quit”, no. I definitely go days without checking in though. Usually because life gets in the way. And I’ve definitely been less active since the US election.

Honestly I prefer it to Reddit because it’s smaller and more civil.
But I won’t lie, I’ve quit Lemmy for a few days when there’s a huge news story.
I’ll go over there because there’s more engagement and updates seem to happen more frequently.
But in general I prefer it here, and I’m happy most of the people stay over there, I don’t want most of them here anyway.

like many recently, we were forced out of reddit by the massive perma-ban waves, and shadowbans recently. yea i go back to check on on reddit, even if i cant comment on it anymore, without ban evading. i dont stay long on reddit, but sometimes i check out the LAMF pages, or animal subs.

I have gone without internet intentionally before if that counts, like if we are going away on holiday I may choose not to take any internet capable devices.

I left for a while after originally creating my account, but that’s mostly because I was missing reddit and the plethora of posts to read through. But I realize the more people exclusively use Lemmy, the more others will consider switching over.

Yes. Because my instance was down for a few days while it was updating and it broke. I came back even it was back up.

Well, I went from using reddit several hours a day for a decade to quitting cold-turkey when they killed 3rd party apps. I haven’t gone back, though I feel like Lemmy is barely an adequate substitute.

I had a “vacation” just now got back from a week long mental hospital stay. Glad to say I am better and glad to be back on Lemmy. What brought me back? I missed it the whole time. Told everyone about the Fediverse too. You could say it was an… obsession.
