Did that run in okay? Lithium grease is usually quite chunky. 3 in 1 do a standard oil which I use for doors. Lithium grease is something I normally use on the car.
To back you up, WD40 stands for Water Displacer, 40th try.
While it does kind of lubricate, that isn’t what it’s meant for, and the leftover ingredients will not keep it lubricated long and possibly cause more damage in the long run.
WD40 to help restore motion to the joint, then clean, then oil. Or just oil if it moves easily.
PB blaster has too many volatiles for using indoor on things like hinges though.
Silicon or white lithium can work but be messy.
Graphite is best for hinges in my experience, I used to use this PTFE spray, but not sure how bad the PFAS exposure is from that. I only use it on the stubborn poorly designed hood latch on my Impreza now.
How about anything with the word “lubricant” in it. The WD stands for Water Displacement, so it was designed to displace water, which it does. It also kinda lubricates, but it’s far from being a good lubricant.
you didn’t mention which lubricant, hope it wasn’t WD40, as people tend to grab it for these things, but the solution usually ends being temporary
I used this, no WD40 😊

Works great! Very liquid. Didn’t put much of it, no chunks to report. I probably will have to clean a bit in a couple of weeks.

Though PB blaster always seems to work better to me. My applications are usually related to loosening stuck/rusted bolts and such.

Oh yeah, I was agreeing on not using it on something like a hinge. Graphite does work well.
What you’re saying is true in general but it works pretty well and for a fairly long time in door hinges.
What else are you supposed to use?
You can just use olive oil; works great.
It won’t seap down?
If you don’t feel like going to the store, petroleum jelly is a half decent solution for squeaky door hinges. Lasts quite a few years too.
Liquid Wrench is pretty good.
A lubricating oil. I like ProTecta.

I feel like water based lubricant wouldn’t go so well with hinges
Molybdenum disulfide is really good
All solutions are temporary bro.
Exactly. Just yesterday I had to recommend someone use an actual lubricant for a lock…
Isn’t graphite powder normally the best solution for locks?
I use wd40 and it’s fine! The lithium wd40 i mean.
